Iβve always been scared of being confined, so when my GP referred me for an MRI scan, I honestly thought about putting it off. I was terrified at the thought of being pushed into a tight tube and having to stay still for 45 minutes.
A friend recommended an open MRI scan at MRI Plus Hendon in London, and what a difference it made. It was an open design, not a normal closed scanner, so I wasn't enclosed on all sides. There was room around me, and I could see out.
The staff were great too. They talked me through exactly what would happen beforehand, checked in with me throughout, and let me know I could stop at any point if I needed to. Having that reassurance, combined with the open design, meant I got through the whole scan calmly.
I would really recommend asking about an open MRI scanner. It made what I thought would be a horrible experience completely manageable and meant I finally got the diagnosis I needed without further delay.
